Snohomish became the county’s first incorporated city in 1890. During those days, most people’s income came from agriculture and canning. Today, Snohomish is home to the Art of Snohomish Gallery, the Snohomish Aquatic Center, the Spencer Island Park, and the Snohomish County Centennial Trail.
These attractions make the city perfect for paddleboarding, diving lessons, biking, afternoon picnics, or appreciating art. Aside from these, the Historic Downtown Snohomish, with its many antique shops and National Register of Historic Places recognition, remains a popular tourist destination today.
Snohomish has been the setting for many films, including the 1981 comedy-drama Bustin’ Loose and the 1985 drama Twice in a Lifetime. In addition, the city’s high school was featured in the 1983 predominantly California-filmed film WarGames.
The summer event known in the city called Kla Ha Ya Days has been celebrated since 1913, and currently attracts up to 25,000 visitors annually. There’s a carnival, car and motorcycle shows, grand parade, and kid’s fair. It is held in July, included in Seafair, a celebration featuring various community events from neighboring cities.
