The City of Mukilteo is a major transportation hub that connects residents and visitors to major state highways, ferries, commuter trains, and buses.
It is home to a Washington State Ferries terminal in downtown Mukilteo, Paine Field in the southeast serving the Boeing Everett Factory, the Mukilteo Station, the Sounder Commuter Trains that connects to Seattle, and three other public transits.
The name Mukilteo means “a good camping ground.” Early settlers established a trading station, timber mill, cannery, and port of entry for trading ships long before the area was incorporated as a city in 1947.
An interesting fact about the city is that the 1855 Peace Treaty between Territorial Governor Isaac Stevens and 82 Indian leaders representing 22 Pacific Northwest tribes was signed in Mukilteo. Present-day residents enjoy a high standard of living as it has become Washington’s one of the wealthiest cities.
The city covers a total area of 1,154 acres, where you may enjoy beach picnics, view the lighthouse, and launch a boat at the Mukilteo Lighthouse Park. In addition, there is the Rosehill Community Center and Big Gulch, the largest conservation area in the city.
The Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival, conducted for three days in late August or early September in Mukilteo Lighthouse Park, is the city’s largest yearly festival. It began in 1965 and has grown to include a parade, fireworks, fishing derby, and fun runs.
